Michael Peter Powell, FRCS, FRCP is an accomplished British neurosurgeon (spinal, cranial, intracranial) with particular interest and expertise in tumors of the pituitary gland.   He currently serves as Consultant Neurosurgeon at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (London); Civilian Neurosurgeon to the Royal Air Force; and Chair SAC Neurosurgery, Joint Committee for Surgical Training (JCST), Royal Colleges of Surgeons.   A dedicated educator and highly sought out lecturer, Dr. Powell has held the post of Examiner, Intercollegiate Board in Neurosurgery, Royal Colleges of Surgeons, since 2003.  He has also been named Honorary Consultant Neurosurgeon by 8 individual London hospitals, including King Edward VII Hospital for Officers, St. Luke’s Hospital for the Clergy, and the Hospital for Sick Children.  

Widely published in British and international journals, Dr. Powell has authored or co-authored more than 70 original articles, textbook chapters, and books.  He is the principal author of The Management of Pituitary Tumors: A Clinician’s Practical Guide (1st and 2nd Edition), a definitive text on this topic.  His clinical and research interests range from chronic pain and advances in neurosurgery to brain and spinal tumors, subarachnoid hemorrhage, cerebral blood flow, and intracranial pressure.

Dr. Powell studied at New College, Oxford before attending medical school at Middlesex Hospital in London.  He currently resides in London with his wife and 3 children.
